When looking you up on YouTube, I noticed you were on The Voice? How was that experience? Do you think it helped shape your career?

“So that's a funny story. My mother called me earlier that day and told me that she had signed me up for it after a night of partying with my friends in Berlin. My friends and I thought it would be fun, so I wasn’t really bothered when the journey ended and was happy that people enjoyed my voice, since I hadn’t had any previous vocal training, since I’d spend 6 hours in the ballet studio every day.”

Can you tell us about being a ballet dancer, and how you shifted into music?

“Well, I think like every 15-year-old girl, it's a lot of hard hours and so dancing was a passion for me and my first dream, but as I got older and didn’t have as much time to enjoy my youth, it was more difficult to keep up.”

How did you first get into music?

“It was definitely more of a hobby that I did on the side at first. It became more of a passion later on in my life.”

What inspired your latest single?

“A lot of discussions with my boyfriend about leaving people that may be very toxic in my life and habits that weren’t really good for me.”

Another thing I noticed was that you live in the Netherlands, what inspired that move?

“It was really on a whim, my friend was planning on travelling here and I thought why not do it together and we travelled here. A lot of music where we are from was traditionally German music, though nothing is wrong with German music, there were more artists here and I was able to do my internship here as well. The Netherlands is beautiful and has a lot of nature.”

You also seem to work a lot with your significant other, is it more so lyrically or performance based?

“I would say that we enjoy working together, we also work with his brother a lot as well. I would say yes that we like to work and create music together, we are currently working on a German music project, which is so strange, since I haven’t really sung in German or listen to German music, since I work and sing in English. He also helps me in managing the business side of everything, so we also work well in that regard.”

If you had to name your top five albums of all time what would they be?

“Jorja Smith is such an amazing singer/songwriter. She has wonderful lyrics and is a great artist, probably the first one that comes to mind for me.

Amy Winehouse is also amazing and her music is so distinct and her songs are really wonderful to listen to.

Adele, her songs and her voice are also something I love, especially the stories within her music.”

What are your musical plans for the next 6 months, if you can share that with us?

“I do have a song coming out in the next two weeks that I am very excited about, March 5th. I am also working on a German music project and had the chance to collaborate with an amazing artist on it. I have another song coming out two weeks after that and so there is a lot of music in the works.”

If you had to play one song right now, what would it be?

“Be Honest by Jorja Smith is the first song that comes to mind, I really love the vibes of it.”
