Alexander 23- ‘Oh no, not again!’
ALEXANDER 23
The talented Chicago native, singer-songwriter Alexander-23 started his career in music when he was only 8 years old playing guitar and writing music. His musical inspirations range from John Mayer, Tame Impala, Mark Ronson, and more.
Since touring with acts such as Alec Benjamin and in 2019 being signed to Interscope records, he has grown with his talent and music, having his first gold single, “IDK YOU YET” with over 56 million streams. Along with his other popular song, “Cry over boys” which has exploded on the very popular app, TikTok.
We got to listen to Alexander speak about his new EP, “Oh no, not again!” and about himself, at a zoom press conference with Universal Music Group, 1824!
Alexander described the EP as, “Sad but hopeful.” He tells us he is usually such a happy person but the majority of the songs are sad which surprised most people when they first hear it, including his mom. “What was kind of exciting about this EP specifically was that it was almost on accident,” Alexander said. “I didn’t set out to write an EP at the beginning, and then it became increasingly clear during the writing process over the last year that these songs belong together.”
“I have songs about stuff that happened to me a few years ago that I never would have written about if I didn’t have to sit in the same place and confront them out of necessity.” This new EP is very emotionally connected and feels very raw getting Alexander's emotions out to the world.
Ever want a relationship but can never seem to find the right one? “The EP chronicles the lifespan of a relationship, from yearning for someone, to finding someone, to some turmoil and it not working out, to trying to recover, to finally moving on, Alexander said. “ ‘Oh No, Not Again!’ felt like a nice, light-hearted way of saying ‘Why the fuck am I like this?’”
I feel like everyone goes through those moments, thinking, “why AM I like this?”
so we definitely relate to this!
