DJs of the Week: Future Vibes Record Shop

DJs of the Week: Future Vibes Record Shop

Last week's DJs of the Week were George Peshkov, Dakota Gorkun, and Austin Chester of Future Vibes Record Shop! George has been a WIRE DJ since his Freshman year, originally hosting Future Groove. George and Dakota (Vibes Radio) merged shows, and the addition of Chester created what is now Future Vibes Record Shop.

Both George and Dakota had been interested in working on college radio, searching for an outlet of their appreciation of music. For Chester, it's a good excuse to hang out with his friends. Dakota loves being able to step away from his work to be able to share music with others. George enjoys just being able to walk into the studio, while Chester is always trying to find ways to get kicked off the air. When listening in, you can expect to hear a variety of underground hip-hop and rap. Chester's favorites include Hellfyre and Rhymesayers, and Dakota recommends A Tribe Called Quest, MF DOOM, along with Knxwledge and Dilla. For George, "no show is complete without a little bit of Mr. Carmack." As to what to expect from the boys themselves, George recalls a time when "we had Chester repeat the lyrics to a hip-hop track, but replaced all the swears with a pre-arranged list of substituted words" As for the future, you can look forward to "Vibes. A beautiful mess. So tune in." - George, Chester and Dakota

Peter Speaks The Truth!

Peter Speaks The Truth!

Happy Monday, everyone! It's the second day of Spring, but you wouldn't ever think so with all this snow. Let's celebrate the soon-to-be wonderful weather with this week's DJ of the Week! Today we joined Peter Gray to hear more about his talk show, Peter Speaks.

Q: What got you to join WIRE, Peter?

A: I joined WIRE because I wanted to find a way to use my voice talent and have people listen to it over the radio.

Q: Why should new listeners check out your show?

A: I think people should listen to my show to hear some different thoughts on some things that go on in today's world. Nothing too controversial!

Q: Tell us about a great thing that happened during one of your shows.

A: In my episode titled "Cheeseburgers", I made the episode surprisingly funny. Normally, I don't aim for humor, so that's a big deal. (And people loved it!)

Q: What's your secret to a successful show?

A: I do not have much of a secret. But what I mostly do is take a look at things that happened during the week and think of the best way to let people know of my experience. I'm starting a new method where I write my script as a chapter of a book and read it in the designated voice.

Hear more about everything pop culture, from Kim Possible to Chimichangas with Peter Speaks - every Saturday at 10:00 AM! Check out a sneak peek HERE!

Strap on Your Helmet with The Mike and AJ Show (With Chris)

Strap on Your Helmet with The Mike and AJ Show (With Chris)

This Week's DJs of the Week are the world-famous hosts of the "The Mike and AJ Show (With Chris)"! Did you know that faculty and staff members could have their own shows at WIRE? If you have a passion for sports and talk, join AJ Andreucci, Mike Williams, and Chris Scanlon every Wednesday at 12 Noon to hear the latest in the wide wide world of sports.

Q: What can we expect to hear on your show?
A: We are a sports talk radio show featuring two of New England's brightest sports minds and a dash of Philadelphia on the side. Our forte of late has been the NFL as we started a few weeks into the beginning of the 2015 season.

Q: What are some of your favorite sports/teams?
A: We enjoy talking about the Patriots and Sox the most. We do stay current with updates in sports to diversify the show.

Q: What got you guys to start your show on WIRE?
A: Mike aka The Sports Guy convinced AJ to do a show because, frankly, the people need to hear their hit takes. Chris joined in as a featured guest and was promoted to long term third seat chiming in as needed or begging for more hockey talk. All three of us enjoy WIRE and wanted to be involved especially since two of us work is the Campus Center.

Q: Why should we listen to your show?
A: We have the hottest takes on all of New England's Internet-based college radio. Mike and Chris try pretty had to rattle AJ and see if they can get hears gears going. Every now and then Mike comes in hot with a passionate soap box speech on a topic, and Chris has recently figured out how to get the phone to work. We really enjoy sports and we approach the show like three people you'd want to hang out and watch a game with. We enjoy having people call in as well.

Q: Tell us about a great thing that happened during one of your shows.
A: The first day we had a caller was fun. We just set up the phone and were interacting on Twitter with fans of the program and one called in. We handled it like true professionals.

A: You have a lot to say on your show. Do you rehearse and plan for it ahead of time?
Q: Our secret is we actually do plan our show. The weeks we think and do research it shows. We also try to remind friends about the slot and to listen during lunch.

Catch The Mike and AJ Show (With Chris) Wednesdays at Noon!

Get #Weird with Uncomfortable Sounds

Get #Weird with Uncomfortable Sounds

Happy Monday, everyone! This week's DJ of the Week is Will Reney with Uncomfortable Sounds! We sat down with Will because we wanted to know what exactly was going on during his show. Now you can know, too! Tune in to Uncomfortable Sounds every Tuesday at 5.

Q: What can we expect to hear on Uncomfortable Sounds?

W: You can expect to hear a rotating cast of random nobodies rambling about things like sweat, homeless people, Mountain Dew, and each others' mothers. In terms of music, I play mostly indie rock and hip hop, focusing on newly released albums, as well as some old favorites. I also plan on taking a lot of requests this season, so listen in to hear more about that.

Q: What are some of your favorite bands/artists you’ll be playing?

W: My current favorite bands are Hinds (who recently dropped a spectacular album), Milo/Scallops Hotel (intelligently written rap with a lot of alternative sounding production), and Grizzly Bear (quite possibly the most talented group of musicians in the past ten years).

Q: What got you to join WIRE?

W: For me, WIRE was (and continues to be) a creative outlet in a school which I feel lacks many ways for people to express themselves creatively. I thought it was really cool that I could show people some new music while also giving them something to laugh at. Also, I really like talking to specific people through the speakers in Beatty. The slightly confused look they make every time makes the show worth doing.

Q: Why should we listen to Uncomfortable Sounds?

W: I think Uncomfortable Sounds is great to listen to if you want to feel like you’re a part of something. The people I have on the show are very energetic and you really get a sense of who they are after listening to just one episode. Also, if you listen from the first episode of the first season up until now, you’ll develop favorites and realize that, for the most part, having a purposefully uncomfortable conversation leads to a lot of jokes. Like a lot of them. We still repeat things that were said on the first few episodes even when we are off air.

Q: Tell us about a great thing that happened during one of your shows.

W: The best things that ever happened on the show were the two different times we did karaoke. I believe the first time you can hear WIRE’s own Bachar Al Hady rap along with Drake’s “Energy” in Episode 4 (don’t quote me on these episode numbers). The second time was with myself and a group of friends all trying to sing “Blister in the Sun”. I believe that was episode 5(?). I don’t know, just listen to them all and thank me later.
